Lal Mahal
Lal Mahal is one of the renowned tourist spots in Pune historical places, with a different name like Red Palace. In 1630 AD, Shivaji’s father, Shahaji Bhosale, created a beautiful building for his son and wife. Shivaji Maharaj has long been living here until his first fort was captured.

This fort was nearly 2000 years old and previously named Kondhan, named after the wise Kaundinya. The name was changed later to Sinhagarh, which means ‘Lion’s Fort’ in the regional language. Sinhagad is located on the clifftop from where the beautiful Sahyadri can be seen, too. History says that, before Shivaji revolted against Adilshahi, the fort was formerly known as Kondhana and owned by ruler Mohammad bin Tughlaq. Thereafter, Shivaji defeated him and took the fort in the year 1647.

It consists of a basalt rock which has a 3-4 meter cubic sanctuary on each side and it is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. It comprises a Linga representing God and on both sides of Linga, there are two smaller cells.
Shinde Chhatri
Shinde Chhatri is a monument built to honor the Mahadji Shinde leader of Maratha. It is a memorial from the 18th century which is one of the city’s oldest monuments. The central section is surrounded by large fortresses of 15 meters high and boasts complex architecture. The complex monument was built by Mahadji Shinde himself in 1794 CE.
